Koh Yao Noi…….a relaxed ending to this island

Well, we are left with only a few more days on Koh Yao Noi, also known as the “Small Long Island”, and we have only R & R planned.
There is a modest amount of development compared to some of the big names in Thai tourism e.g. Phuket, Phii Phi Island etc. Part of the reason is due to the locals. Muslims make up a whopping 90% of the population in Koh Yao Noi and they’re doing everything they can to prevent their home from turning into yet another party island. That doesn’t mean that you can’t find alcohol on the island or that bars don’t exist — it’s just that, there are only a few instead of entire streets lined with them on this island.
To work up a bit of appetite we went on a bit of a walkabout checking out the local scenery …
…..these ladies were cooking up a storm, unfortunately, we could not figure out what it was…
…then down a little laneway and onto the side of a river where a flotilla of boats were moored, testament to the fishing antecedents of this village…
….before turning back to see the local village & pier
…from the end of the pier, we caught sight of a tall ship cruising through the islands (this would be a neat cruise to take)…
…a short detour to a local waterfall and onwards to our lunch stop…
…and then a lazy balance of the day…

A lovely sunrise …..what a start to the day !!!
We decide on pineapple pancakes > quite decent and good fortification for another walkabout, this time heading back toward Manah Pier where we arrived, a pleasant walk passing some rubber plantations > latex is bled from the tree (reminds us of tapping trees for maple syrup) and then processed…
…came across these rides, and wish we had seen them earlier, as it would have been fun to try….little later found the rental place > 600 THB (24 CAD) for the day.
…passed several accommodations, the one below, Ani’s Villas being a tad higher than our budget…
…nevertheless tried to get someone’s attention…but to no avail:
…eventually, we stopped for a nice seaside lunch …
…for a change salads were the order of the day…..
Well, Moosie thought the outing was fun and as were walking back a songthaew stopped and asked us if we wanted a ride ….Free !!! the young guy yelled out >>> obviously, they respect elderberries in these parts and we climbed into the truck…back at Seaview I had to literally force a note into his hand (a nice gesture on the lad’s part and indicative of the nods, greetings etc. we encountered on our short excursions).
Pooltime, siesta and packing up is the order of the afternoon, as tomorrow is another transfer day….regulation nice supper in the “cafeteria” and lights out (of course after getting this post out !!)…
