October 8th
The morning dawns cool and foggy…autumn is coming and coming quickly. Below the Duoma dominating the Piazza di Popole. Today we will check out some sights in Todi and with the sun burning through the fog it should be a gorgeous day…
Lots of walking today so we head towards home, buying some food at the local grocery store (small but has the essentials) plus the lady owners are very pleasant and put up with my sad attempts at communication. Also picked up a pair of pants from the local seamstress …explaining the zipper problem on the side pocket was fun but she got the job done on time and for 2euros. As Chef Annie is hard at work preparing dinner there is a commotion on the terrace and a film crew arrives to film an interview with the mayor ??? which is obviously intended to promote Todi as a destination. Sorry about the photos but they are through the screens on the windows. They even had a drone racing around …no, no one asked us our thoughts about Todi. After dinner a brief walk to the piazza to see what is going on….not much, but pretty with the lights…
October 9th & 10th
The weather is holding up and we decide to check out a small town about 45 minutes outside of Todi called Bevanga which for a change is not a mountaintop village. It has been in existence since Roman times and is a pleasant village > the highlight being Piazza Silvestri with its two ancient churches and other 13th-century buildings:
On the way back we stopped in at Montefalco to get some pics as my camera battery had died …some of the restos have table tops finished in a multicolored ceramic glaze which some of the local artisans specialize in….looked practical and very cool:
We still had to visit the Chiesa della Nunziatina which is famous for frescoes…it really was excellent, not much from the outside but inside it glows:…
as it is Tomorrow is our last day and I think you can guess we really liked this area. A celebration was in order so we headed out to Osteria Valle (truth be told we tried to get reservations twice before but each time were told it was full). It was Thanksgiving, and while we didn’t have turkey we had pumpkin flan to start with … a very nice meal though I think Annie made the better choice !!
We really liked this town and were miffed that we had not done more” homework” prior to coming, as a re-enactment (parades, contests, lots of food stalls, even some jousting) was starting just a few days after our departure, maybe next time…
In any event, a wonderful time was had by one and all!!!
