March 24
Having decided to meet up with Andy we wandered down to his Casa but could not get in …most casas have grates and pretty heavy-duty doors, often without doorbells, so knocking and yelling are the go to plays. In any event we walked around a bit checking out his “hood”…..
and came back about an hour later…….this time we got in and were warmly welcomed by the casa owners and checked out his digs. To our surprise the owner’s wife was also the lady at the Internet cafe who helped us out the day before…small world.
Then we are off to the beach……Plaza Ancon which is on a peninsula jutting out into the Bahia Casilda is reached by taxi in about 20 minutes….. our “ride” was an 1988 Lada > a Soviet era Fiat wannabe, the best price we could negotiate was 8 CUC each way…..
we had a good walk on the beach, which was nice but not great, however it did leave us parched…so a rehydration break at the beach resto was in order ….
…….the hotel (an all-inclusive) looked a tad severe………..but was well attended by a flock of foreigners
….then back to Trinidad and time for lunch at Taberna La Bojita …..with a well deserved reputation for tapas
……after working our way through a bunch of tapas it was definitely time for a siesta….. the plan is for Andy to meet us at our Casa at 18:30 for a cocktail on the terrace and then dinner in the old town. Well, he was a tad late, one cocktail turned into several …..blame it on the evening it was beautiful….
Unfortunately, by the time we got to the old town all our choices had long line-ups……a bit (lot) frustrating as we don’t do hungry very well….in any event finally had dinner …a tad mediocre. We left Andy to explore a bit and headed back to our Casa as tomorrow we are going to Cienfuegos….and it will be an early start.
