Canal du Midi > Day #2……..to Le Somail
Categories France and Spain 2015........a roadtrip with a boat cruiseOctober 2nd
We woke up to a rather dull day, it having rained quite heavily overnite….but we need to move on; fire up the stove: coffee, croissants, fruit and we are off. Rather gloomy with rain threatening but not bad and slowly the clouds lift and the sun comes out just as we arrive at a small town. Park the boat, no mooring posts so we drive in some stakes and set off to explore……..pretty quiet….but we manage to buy a few baguettes and enjoy a quiet lunch time:
After lunch, an uneventful run, as we make our way towards Le Somail (planned overnite spot) passing little villages and lots of bucolic scenes:
.. as well as some serious commercial barges…a little intimidating at first:
By about 4PM we arrive at Le Somail anticipating water/power…but it is not really available, no big deal as there is still plenty of water and the batteries are full after recharging all day. Not a bad spot, nice old bridge and quite a few boats.
We immediately secure breakfast supplies by obtaining same at the Epicerie Flottant (floating mini mart)….
It is nice enough to enjoy a nice sunset and cocktail sitting on the bridge before putting on our ” formal dining attire” ….. reservations are at 19:30 at Lo l’a Bouche …..luckily the resto is a mere 50 yards from the boat:
…….nice dinner at a kind of funky place:
…..the writer has some wonderful raw meat to ensure an appropriate level of energy for the morrow.
Then we noticed that the TV was carrying the Rugby Match >>> All Blacks versus Georgia….a large group two tables suddenly broke into the New Zealand National Anthem complete with various gestures climaxing in howls etc. as the All Blacks performed their Haka War Dance.
>> suffice to say the French in the resto were mesmerized!!! Quite a fun way to conclude our dinner which everyone enjoyed immensely. Day #2 is done.
