La Rochepot to Avignon to Bourgogne……..wine, wine, wine

Categories France and Spain 2015........a roadtrip with a boat cruise

September 4th

Got up after an almost ok sleep…..still lagging a bit and had breakie with our hostess who had just finished serving frobreakfast to her crew who were off to start the first day of the wine harvest…le vendages. The gite was in the center of the town on a street populated by the Fauquerand’s who are heavily into wine and farming.

After breakfast toured the town and ran up the hill….always hills, to look at the local chateau ….closed but neat anyways.

Today the objective is to reach Avignon some 400 kms to the south:

The game plan is to travel via back roads to see some some grands crus vineyards …..very cool, the vineyards look almost manicured and everything around them looks almost too well-kept to be real. With the harvest started the area is buzzing with activity…

Below one of the best:

It certainly is an area that we need to come back to and look at more closely!

Needed to make some time so we hit the A7 and were in Avignon by late afternoon…..now the fun started. Miss Charm aka GPS (whose Brit accent we cannot change e.g. AviGGGnone….arrgh!!!) directed us to our AIR BNB but she was off by a few blocks…minor gong show and of course being in the Old Town it was impossible to park and our contact was not there……frenetic driving up and down streets (alleys, walkways in Canada, preposterously called Rues here….thank god our car is midget sized) we met up with her, dumped our stuff in the flat, parked the car somewhere and retired to the flat for a much needed beverage….we are here! Dinner at a touristy resto (quite decent), yapped with an elderberry “couple” from Palm Springs…..as can be guessed quite liberal….then to bed.
